Last Thursday, Balanz team member, proud Scot and our very own wine connoisseur, John Aird, hosted a handful of guests for an educational and fun-filled evening of tasting exceptional hand-picked wines.

Did you know that John studied in London with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), and has been a wine judge at various London events? Then, when John came to Australia from Scotland in 1998, he acquired a Diploma in Wine Marketing with the University of Adelaide during which he completed blind tasting exams in the Australian Wine Centre.  During the course he also was hands-on within the industry, working at various wineries including vineyard duties such as the pruning and cutting of vines.

Needless to say, John has a strong knowledge of Australian wines, as well as wineries throughout the world. 

Armed with this expertise, John hosted a fantastic event for a small group of Balanz guests – the evening began with a discussion of the history of wine and the process involved to make, and perfect it.  Our guests were then given the opportunity to taste a flight of six wines (three each of red and white), with John discussing the nuances of each.  A blind tasting followed for everyone to hone their new skills, and have a laugh!

The evening was a unique way for some of our Balanz team and clients to get together, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
